Children’s Dentistry

At Infinite Smiles in South Bay, we are experienced in providing dental care to children, parents, and grandparents. Dr. Boulos is a mom to three kids and understands that children's dental needs differ from adults. We maintain positive energy to make sure that your son or daughter's visit to our dental office is memorable and positive. We want your visit to be comfortable and convenient and as such, we aim to provide comprehensive general dentistry in Torrance to all our patients regardless of their age and needs.

Oral Care for Your Child

Care for your little one’s teeth should begin before his or her first tooth erupts. Wipe the gums with a warm washcloth after every feeding to clean out any bacteria. Once their teeth start erupting, brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush. You can start incorporating a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste on their toothbrush around this time as well. Once children are three to six years old, you can increase the amount of toothpaste to a pea-size.

Young children will need help brushing their teeth until the age of seven or eight years. Prior to this, it is important that a parent or guardian brush their teeth and monitor their oral hygiene habits.

When Should My Child Have Their First Appointment?

In order to protect their precious smile, call us to make an appointment no later than their first birthday. During these visits, Dr. Boulos will do an oral checkup to make sure there are no cavities, monitor the eruption of teeth, and provide hygiene instructions. As children get older, we will add cleanings, fluoride treatment, and dental sealants.

Fluoride helps protect teeth from cavities caused by the acid produced in the mouth. It can also help repair enamel that has been mildly damaged by these acids. Both children, as well as adults, can benefit from fluoride.

We recommend fluoride to patients with dry mouth, a history of decay, and those with poor dental hygiene. Fluoride varnish is also effective in reducing tooth sensitivity. Results can be effective for 3-4 months. Be sure to ask us if you would benefit from fluoride treatment.

The pits and grooves of some teeth may be too narrow for the reach of a toothbrush bristle. As plaque accumulates in these pits, the risk of tooth decay increases. The team at South Bay Infinite Smiles will place a dental sealant on those teeth to protect against cavities.

A dental sealant is a protective white coating that we place on the chewing surface of the teeth. They are commonly placed on the permanent molars of children, usually around the age of six when the first permanent molars erupt and around the age of twelve when the second permanent molars erupt. Dental sealants can also be placed on adults’ teeth for the same purpose.

How Does Dr. Boulos Place Dental Sealants in Torrance?

  • No anesthetic and no drilling
  • The tooth surface is polished and cleaned
  • The sealant material flows through the grooves
  • A blue light is then used to cure and set the material

We look forward to meeting your son or daughter! Call us at 310-792-0049 to schedule your child’s next dental visit at our Torrance dental office.
